My story is one you’ve probably heard before or you can relate to yourself. I’ve always had a weight issue and I’ve dieted and exercised on and off throughout my whole life.
In 1993, I lost 38 pounds with Weight Watchers and became a part time leader which helped me maintain my weight for years. I quit the job when I got married in 1997 – choosing to enjoy my new life instead and because I didn’t have to jump on the scales each week, my weight crept up a little.
It was when I got pregnant with my first child that my weight ballooned – I used my pregnancy as a license to eat! I ate anything I wanted, whenever I wanted... and I gained 60lbs!
I lost a few pounds before baby number two came along, by trying the Atkins plan – but the weight didn’t stay off. I just couldn’t eat that much meat and I really missed my fruit and vegetables! And when my second child arrived, my weight sky rocketed! I was so embarrassed – ashamed that I’d let myself get this way – and desperate to change. I tried South Beach, food combining and I even went back to Weight Watchers several times but I couldn’t stay on track – there was too much to write down and I felt so restricted. I had two kids and I was running a full time business – I didn’t have time for all that!
Things changed when I met a British lady called Yvonne at a business network meeting. She'd moved to Texas to launch a weight loss club, new to the States, but a household name in the UK. I'd tried everything else and figured, for just $10 a week, what did I have to lose?
I went to my first Slimming World group and I was amazed at all the things I could eat without tracking, weighing or measuring. I can enjoy a filet mignon, potatoes and salad – and not have to count it! The group is a warm and safe place to get the support that I need. I have met great people and have lost weight! And I know I’ll be able to keep my weight off because it is EASY!
And now I’ve been given the opportunity to share this liberating eating plan and to encourage and work with members who want to take back control of their lives, the healthy and easy way. It looks like the only thing I had to lose… was my weight!
