56-year-old middle-school teacher Rosemary Gilbert is top of the class after losing 77 pounds with Slimming World. Read her story here...
"I started putting on weight way back in the third grade. It just got worse and worse over the years. I tried quick-fix diets and other fads, but nothing was effective long-term.
"In 2012, frustrated by my sleep apnea, high cholesterol and various aches and pains, I went to the doctor for help. She said all of my complaints were weight-related. That hurt my feelings and I was angry with myself. I didn’t realize how much damage I was causing to my body.
My doctor recommended that I try Slimming World. The flexible plan sounded like something I could follow, although I was skeptical that it would actually work. But all doubt was erased after the first week, when I lost 9 and a half pounds.
“I like the large variety of foods and the recipes - taco soup is my favorite. The support I get is so personable; other programs made me feel like I was a name and a number instead of an actual person that they’re really trying to help.
"Slimming World feels like a freedom, like something I can do for the rest of my life. I now walk and exercise at least five days a week to complement the eating plan. My health has improved and I no longer need a CPAP machine for sleeping and my cholesterol is now under control.
"At a recent work-related event, someone walked up to me and asked, “Where do I know you from?” I laughed and told the woman that I’d worked for her the previous year. She was like, ‘This is unbelievable'. And my students – a couple of them have said, ‘Wow, Ms. Gilbert!’
"My goal for the future is to keep the weight off by sticking with my new-found habits, keep the super-positive attitude and spread the good news about Slimming World. Every time I look in the mirror or see a new picture, I have to tell myself, ‘This is me.’ I shook off a whole person! It makes me want to go out and encourage everybody else: ‘This is what worked for me.’”
