"I started putting on weight way back in the third grade. It just got worse and worse over the years. I tried quick-fix diets and other fads, but nothing was effective long-term.
"In 2012, frustrated by my sleep apnea, high cholesterol and various aches and pains, I went to the doctor for help. She said all of my complaints were weight-related. That hurt my feelings and I was angry with myself. I didn’t realize how much damage I was causing to my body.
