This year is a celebration of freedom for 71-year-old Hal Watson: Freedom from obesity! After gaining weight over the last 20 years, Hal's now head over heels about his weight loss of 40lbs!
A former wing commander in the U.S. Air Force, champion aerobatic pilot, engineer and highly regarded aerospace, aviation and defense industry consultant reached his loftiest goals within a short four-month period. After joining Slimming World, Hal quickly reached his Personal Achievement Target by losing more than 10 percent of his total body weight.
Hal always ate chocolate chip cookies on the go and admits to choosing sweets over everything healthy. His gradual weight gain was slow and steady, resulting in a 50-pound weight gain that crept up through the years from 1990 to 2010. This past November, Hal looked in the mirror and didn't like what he saw. After seeing his retired friends and neighbors successfully lose weight on Slimming World's easy-to-follow and energizing weight-loss program, he made up his mind to get motivated and sign up!
Today, this patriotic veteran looks and feels great—just like he did during his active-duty Air Force days in France, Vietnam, and Germany—going from a 43-inch waist size down to an easy and comfortable size 38.
I’ve had all of my business suits altered and every pair of pants downsized! Thanks to Slimming World’s support team, I focused on results and I proudly fit back into my Air Force flight suit again.
He has had two knee replacements and is a seven-year cancer survivor, but Hal makes no excuses for his weight gain. “My added pounds were due to overeating the wrong foods like snacking on sweets and white bread and butter, not because of physical conditions or challenges. I’m now at acceptable body mass index (BMI) and I’m happy to say that I’m a stronger and healthier man now.”
Hal plays golf every Friday, walks as often as he can, and goes to the gym doing 30 minutes of cardio on the stepper or recumbent bike and has added some weight lifting to his circuit.
Slimming World’s Food Optimising plan was the weight-control solution for Hal and luckily it wasn’t about eating lettuce leaves to lose weight. With Slimming World, Hal said that he could enjoy eating a variety of foods in unlimited amounts, such as fish, poultry, lean meat, pasta and potatoes, as well as fresh vegetables and fruits. He raves about the fact that his craving for sweets is generally gone: “Slimming World really taught me to eat differently and they made it easy, with many satisfying food options and no counting of calories. I don’t crave those homemade cookies any more; instead I choose healthy alternatives like California Clementine oranges or fat-free yogurt. Also, I can still enjoy a nice glass of wine or scotch before dinner.” said Hal.
